Let's talk pandemic weddings!
Our girl and Marketing Manager, Charlotte, has shared her #lockdownlovestory with us – and damn, we’re here for magical micro weddings after this dreamy affair. But it wasn’t all plain sailing!
Like couples all over the world, the pandemic threw wedding planning into disarray – with couples now having a Plan A, B and C for so many aspects of their day.
After much deliberation, Charlotte and Christopher decided to postpone from their original date in June 2020 to March this year.
When and where did you get married?
“We were due to get married in June last year but when the pandemic hit, we decided to move our wedding date to early 2021 thinking everything would be back to normal by then. Little did we know we would still be in and out of lockdowns almost a year later!
“As our new date was approaching, we decided to just go for it and make the most of what we could. It was a difficult decision with my Sister and other Bridesmaid stuck in Australia, and restricted guest numbers of 6 – but, with my Mum having battled cancer during the first lockdown and thankfully having come out the other side since – it put everything into perspective and made us thankful that our families were still able to celebrate the day with us, albeit some via Zoom.
“So, last month we finally tied the knot in the most magical wedding venue in Co. Sligo - Markree Castle!”
So, tell us a little about your day?
“It was the best day ever! We never stopped smiling the whole day long… and probably weeks after. We were surrounded by so much love, it was incredible.
"We enjoyed everything you expect to have at a wedding - yes, some aspects were a little different than we had planned but we embraced it all. From the intimate ceremony, to having our first dance outside to sitting down to our meal surrounded by the dreamiest tablescape and floral displays ever.
"Like honestly, when do you ever have a castle to yourself for a weekend?! It was magical and looking back on the day, we wouldn't change a thing. We only wish our family and friends could have got to experience it with us!”
Any suppliers you’d recommend?
"We were so lucky with our suppliers! They were all so incredible to work with and made us feel so special in the run up to, during and also after our wedding day."

Would you like to share any advice for future couples planning their wedding during Covid?
"Whether it’s a wedding with 6 guests or over 100, your day is going to fly! My advice would be to make sure you have a photographer and/ or videographer there to capture all of the magical moments for you – so you can relive your day over and over again!
"I also want to reassure all the couples getting married soon, that no matter what, you are going to have the most amazing day (even if it is a little different to what you had originally planned)… and you will finally be able to say you’re married to your best friend!"
