How long have you worked with Jack Murphy Jewellers for?
"Jack Murphy Jewellers has always been a huge part of my life, my parents opened the business 50 years ago and we are proud to be celebrating such a fantastic milestone that is 50 Golden Years in business in Newry City Centre this year!
As a teenager I worked in the shop alongside my parents, my main duties involved a lot of paperwork, during this time my dad taught me how to engrave, repair watches and also minor in house jewellery repairs. Following my a-levels, I left Newry to study in Bolton. This led to years of travelling from America to Australia and everywhere in between! I met my wife Linda in Australia, we then relocated to London until 2016 when we decided to come home to Newry to spend time with family.
My duties have evolved since my teenage days here in our showroom, I now repair watches, take wedding ring and engagement ring consultations and work on streamlining internal operations. At the moment I am working on building upon the current system that my dad has put in place while digitising the business. This involves data transfer for a migration that we are currently working on."
Describe a typical working day for you?
"My typical working day is varied. It could be anything from watch repairs, wedding band consultations to general repairs – I can sometimes be better known as Mr Fix It! I really enjoy my job due to the variation, each day is varied and fun which keeps me busy."
Favourite part of your job?
"My favourite part of my job would have to be my colleagues. We work really well as a team which makes my job enjoyable!"
What is your favourite piece of jewellery?
"My favourite piece would have to be the Baume & Mercier 48mm auto Hampton rectangle date window leather watch. The history and craftsman ship behind these watches is incredible."

"Elon Musk. I really like the honest work that Elon does, bringing change for the better to the world."
