You’re Engaged! So, What’s Next?

AHHH you are engaged!! Let’s get planning.

The day has finally come. You are engaged! What a magical feeling; a time to celebrate love and share the brilliant news with all your family and friends.

However, do you find yourself thinking... What is next? There is much to do, people to contact and things to organise. Don’t panic, our Diamond Specialists are here to help.

So, where should you start? There is no exact order to how you should start planning for your special day, but let’s start by tackling the major to-dos…

  1. Tell Your family and friends

It’s such an exciting time, from telling your nearest and dearest that you have found the love of your life to planning your wedding. Whether you tell your family and friends in-person, or via FaceTime, it’ll be a moment you’ll cherish forever.

  1. Take a ring selfie

If you don’t share it on social media, did it even happen? Everybody wants to see that fabulous ring!! So why not snap a quick picture of it on or maybe a cute selfie of you and your new fiancé/ fiancée, then share the love with all your extended family and friends.

  1. Celebrate

Now its time to celebrate the good news, invite some close friends out for a drink or delight in this special time, just the two of you together. You got your dream ring and your dream partner, if that’s not worth celebrating... we don’t know what is!

  1. Insure the ring

We know insuring your ring isn’t the most glamourous or exciting thing about wedding planning.  But, by simply adding your engagement ring to your house insurance or getting itemized jewellery insurance, one of your most valuable and sentimental jewellery pieces will be protected so you can enjoy wearing them.

  1. Get your ring sized

Does your ring fit like a glove? Or is it too loose or tight? Don’t fret, bring your engagement ring into Jack Murphy Jewellers showroom to have it resized, and we’ll have it back on your hand in time to show it off.

  1. Pick a date

Have you always dreamt of a summer wedding? Or perhaps, the winter is more your style?! Whatever the season, it’s always a good idea to start thinking of dates early for your big day, as most sought-after venues and suppliers will be booked up months, if not years in advance.

  1. Visit venues

You can’t pick a date without securing the perfect wedding venue. Start by researching places online and make appointments to visit your favourites. It’s all getting real now, just imagine standing in your venue, surrounded by family and friends after saying ‘I DO’ to the one you love. It’s an incredible feeling that you’ll never forget!

  1. Inspiration

Create a mood board. Start by saving all your favourite pictures and wedding inspiration to a Pinterest board, Instagram or Google Docs. Use these to make your vision come to life and start planning what elements you want to incorporate into your wedding day.

  1. Ask your bridal party

The question that every sibling and best friend is secretly waiting to hear. To be given the opportunity to stand by your side when you say ‘I DO’. How many bridesmaids or groomsmen do you want? Before making this important decision, don’t forget to discuss this with your fiancé/ fiancée before you start ‘popping the question’ to your friends and family.

  1. Wedding dress shopping

It’s time to start looking for the dress! Have you been dreaming about this moment since you were little or is this the first time you’ve really thought about it? Either way, do some research on the styles and designers that catch your eye, then start booking those appointments. Instagram will become your best friend when planning your big day!

  1. Pick your rings

The two most important items on your shopping list, your wedding rings! Two little bands that will represent your love and lifelong commitment to one another for the rest of your lives. It’s recommended you start researching wedding rings 6 months before your special day, and ordering no later than 3 months before.

  1. Enjoy

Don’t forget to enjoy this experience. Planning a wedding can be stressful at times, but it’s important to have fun and enjoy the ride. Don’t forget to take some time out from all the planning to reconnect with each other and remind yourselves why you are getting married in the first place.
